Illinois Public Health Institute

The Illinois Public Health Institute (IPHI) mobilizes stakeholders, catalyzes partnerships, and leads action to promote prevention and improve public health systems in order to maximize health, health equity and quality of life for the people of Illinois. IPHI advocates for enhanced physical education through policy advocacy, public education, and training.

The Illinois Public Health Institute (IPHI) is working with administrators and teachers in suburban Cook County schools to implement new physical education standards recently adopted by the Illinois State Board of Education. These standards move away from PE focused on playing sports. They put new emphasis on student fitness; increasing moderate-to-vigorous physical activity during PE class time, and the latest neuroscience linking fitness with perception, thinking, reasoning and remembering, so that PE can better help students succeed academically.
