Boost Up Cook County

On Sept. 12, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended everyone 6 months and older get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to avoid serious illness, hospitalization or death from COVID infection. COVID-19 vaccines will still be free for most Americans through private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid, and through CDC’s Bridge Access Program for uninsured or underinsured adults.

It is common to get sick from respiratory viruses in the fall and winter. Anyone can get a respiratory virus infection, but some people are at increased risk for serious illness, hospitalization and even death – including infants and young children, seniors, pregnant women and people with certain chronic health conditions. There are actions you can take to protect yourself and others.

Get vaccinated

Cook County public health officials are encouraging everyone to “Boost Up” even if you are “boosted out.” Stay up-to-date on all CDC-recommended immunizations, including seasonal vaccines for COVID , flu and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) , if eligible.

Everyone 6 months and older should get an updated COVID-19 vaccine and a flu vaccine. The RSV vaccine can be given at the same time.

Routine vaccinations help prevent:

  • Severe illness, hospitalization, and death
  • Missing out on social gatherings with friends and family
  • Missing out on school and extracurricular activities
  • Spreading diseases to children and others who aren’t vaccinated because of age or medical conditions
