Statement from CCDPH: Ebola Outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda
We are closely monitoring the Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. At this time, the CDC has not confirmed any Ebola cases in the United States related to these outbreaks, and the overall risk to the American public and travelers remains low. The CDC has reported that it is implementing enhanced public health measures, including airport screening, traveler monitoring, contact tracing, and increased hospital preparedness to help ensure rapid identification and response should a case be detected in the United States.

Coordinating with IDPH for in-state laboratory testing capacity for Ebola (including Bundibugyo virus) and other causes of viral hemorrhagic fever as needed.

Coordinating with IDPH in the event of any exposed individual entering our jurisdiction that will need monitoring.

Partnership with two Special Pathogen Treatment Centers (Rush University Medical Center and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital) in Chicago with enhanced capabilities to care for Ebola patients

Close communication with local, state, and federal partners
For Healthcare Providers in Suburban Cook County:

All Suburban Cook County patients with symptoms consistent with Ebola virus disease and an epidemiologic link to an outbreak-affected area should be reported immediately to Cook County Department of Public Health. Providers should also notify EMS and any receiving healthcare facility prior to referral/transfer.
