Cook County Issues New Funding Opportunities to Improve Mental Health in Suburban Cook County
 
 
Suburban Cook County, IL – Cook County Department of Public Health has issued an open call for funding opportunities to help improve mental health in suburban Cook County. The funding opportunities reflect the department’s commitment to building healthier communities in suburban Cook County. The open calls are for restorative practices in schools and power building.

Open Call: Restorative Practices in Schools

Up to $55,000 will be awarded to up to two organizations to support the implementation of restorative practices in schools. 

Restorative practices offer an alternative to exclusionary discipline in schools, can decrease suspensions and expulsions, and improve mental health, socio-emotional skills, and overall school climate. Learn more about restorative practices in schools in Cook County Department of Public Health’s new Restorative Practices report.

Eligibility: Publicly funded schools and school districts; intermediate service centers; non-profits; and restorative practice consultants.   

Award: A total of $55,000 in funding is available. Up to two organizations will be awarded for three months. Organizations can request up to $55,000 in funding.

Application Period:June 23 – July 22, 6:00pm CDT

Virtual Information Session: July 1, 2026, 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. CDT

CCDPH will be hosting a virtual information session for potential grantees to ask questions about the application.

Open Call: Power Building

Up to $40,000 will be awarded to up to two community-based power building organizations engaging in community organizing efforts that address the structural drivers of mental health, substance use, and social and emotional traumas.   

Funding will support staff time towards community engagement, policy analysis and development, training, and education, but cannot support direct legislative advocacy. Issues areas could include, but are not limited to: social isolation, civic engagement (including voter access), restorative justice/restorative practices, community alcohol policies, criminal legal system reform, and paid sick leave. 

Eligibility: 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that conduct community organizing or base-building activities are eligible to apply.

Awards: A total of $40,000 in funding is available. Up to two organizations will be awarded for three months. Organizations can request up to $40,000 in funding.
