Sisters Working It Out (SWIO) was founded in 2001 by renown, University of Chicago physician and breast cancer survivor, Dr. Monica Peek. SWIO is dedicated to educating, empowering & connecting medically underserved communities to quality health services. Its mission is to be a catalyst in the elimination of health disparities across Chicagoland. SWIO is committed to supporting the underserved across Chicago’s Southland communities, particularly communities hardest hit by COVID-19, including Blue Island, Posen, Robbins, Riverdale and Calumet Park. These communities are predominately African American with high poverty levels, crowded housing, unemployment and income insecurity. SWIO aims to support underserved Black and Latinx women, Breast Cancer patients and survivors, and the homeless.
