Tanning, Body Art & Piercing
Tanning is a process in which the pigmentation of the skin deepens/darkens as a result of exposure to ultraviolet light.
Body art (tattoos) are permanent pictures, patterns, or words on the surface of the skin, created by using needles to put colored ink under the skin.
Body piercing is the act of piercing holes in parts of the body other than the earlobes in order to insert rings or other decorative objects.
CCDPH conducts inspections and investigates complaints of tanning, body art & piercing establishments throughout suburban Cook County to assure required licenses are obtained; and that all public health, safety and sanitary protocols are followed and maintained. Tanning facilities are issued permits to operate by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and body art and piercing establishments are required to be registered with IDPH.
