Laws & Rules

Introduction

Structured by topic area, the following provides links to selected text of laws, rules, ordinances and regulations relevant to CCDPH programs and public health generally. Citations are to federal and Illinois laws, the Illinois Administrative Code, Cook County Code of Ordinances and CCDPH regulations.

For convenience, in parentheses after each law, rule, ordinance or regulation is the citation or location where the law, rule, ordinance or regulation can be found.

  • Laws are listed in the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) by Chapter and Act number. For example, the Communicable Disease Report Act is designated as Act 45 in Chapter 745 of the ILCS and would be shown as “(745 ILCS 45).”
  • Rules are organized in the Illinois Administrative Code (Ill. Adm. Code) by Title and Part number. For example, the rules for the Control of Communicable Disease – the Control of Communicable Diseases Code – are located in Part 690 of Title 77 of the Illinois Administrative Code and referred to as “(77 Ill. Adm. Code 690).”
  • Ordinances are codified in the Code of Ordinances of Cook County Illinois (Cook County Code). Each section number consists of two parts separated by a dash. The number before the dash refers to the chapter number, and the figure after the dash refers to the position of the section within the chapter. For example, “Cook County Code Section 38-33” refers to chapter 38 and section 33 within chapter 38.

The abbreviation “et seq.” means the current citation and any other related citations that follow. For example, the citation “Communicable Disease Report Act (745 ILCS 45/0.01 et seq.)” means the current citation and the other related citations of Act 45 in Chapter 745 that follow. In some instances section numbers are listed in the link to direct you to a select provision of the law, rule, ordinance or regulation.
