When a person who got the COVID-19 vaccine gets infected with COVID-19 it is called a “breakthrough infection.” COVID-19 vaccines are effective at preventing most infections but not all of them. Your chances of getting COVID-19 are much lower if you get the vaccine. You also have a much lower chance of getting really sick or needing to go to the hospital.
