The Cook County Department of Public Health responds to complaints about food safety, indoor and outdoor nuisances, rodents and pests,; water, wells and septic within unincorporated areas of Cook County.

A nuisance can be a person, a thing, or a circumstance that causes an inconvenience or an annoyance to someone or may be injurious to the safety and health of the public. A nuisance can be an act, an object, or a practice that invades or interferes with a person’s rights or interests by being offensive, dangerous, obstructive, or unhealthy.

CCDPH conducts on-site investigations of nuisance complaints throughout unincorporated suburban Cook County to determine if a violation is committed and to assure correction and compliance. For incorporated areas, contact the village or municipality.

There are 44 declared nuisances in the Cook County, IL ordinance . Some examples are tall grass and weeds, uncontained garbage, pet waste accumulation and vectors such as rodents and insect infestations.
