School Health Profiles Survey

The School Health Profiles, developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is a system of surveys that assesses school health policies and practices. The Cook County Department of Public Health administered the surveys in 2024 to high school principals and health education teachers in suburban Cook County.

The profiles monitor the current status of:

  • School health education requirements and content
  • Physical education and physical activity
  • Practices related to bullying and sexual harassment
  • School health policies related to tobacco-use prevention and nutrition
  • School-based health and mental health services
  • Family engagement and community involvement
  • School health coordination

Why Are Profiles Results Important And How Can They Be Used?

Profiles results are meant to be used by leaders and decision makers, especially in schools, school districts, and state education agencies to understand the gaps in policies and practices that can impact student health and academic performance.

Identifying gaps in school health policies and practices supports local discussions and decisions about needed changes and monitors those changes over time.
