Youth Risk Behavior Survey
The Suburban Cook County Youth Risk Behavior Survey (SCC YRBS) is based on the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, which is a health monitoring system designed in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and numerous state and local health departments and conducted at the national, state, and local levels. Data from the SCC YRBS aims to help describe the extent to which youth are engaging in risky behaviors in the 125 suburban municipalities that comprise CCDPH’s jurisdiction. The SCC YRBS was just completed rounds of the survey in 2020 and 2022 with paper and electronic surveys. The last local youth health survey conducted in Suburban Cook County occurred back in 2010.
About the Survey
The SCC YRBS is a health survey of high school students in 9th through 12th grades attending public schools. The survey objectives are to assesses priority health risk behaviors of the students, including:
- behaviors that result in unintentional injuries and violence
- alcohol
- tobacco use and other drug use
- sexual behaviors and sexually transmitted diseases,
- unintended pregnancies
- dietary behaviors and physical activity
- other health topics
